A look back at one of our earlier church homes.
St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church was established in 1914. We've called three different addresses home since then — starting near the old river front on Commerce Street, then the corner of South and Martin, before our members bought the land and built the sanctuary on West Ridgeway Street with their own hands in 1973.
Same faith. Same family. Just a few more rooms to hold us.
Rev. James A. Washington, Jr. was elected Senior Pastor in May 2023, following the passing of his father, Rev. James A. Washington, Sr., who shepherded St. Peter for 53 years. Pastor James grew up in these pews and was converted here at age nine — he's come home to pastor the generations who watched him grow up.
